Here you will find Baro Drom, our current project, alongside a few moments from the association’s early years. Each time, our starting point was people.
In the Romani language, baro drom means “the great road” – for us, the road from education to inclusion.
Through Baro Drom we work for the education of the young Roma generation, for inclusion strategies that actually work and for a society in which no one is judged by their ethnicity. Our most recent activities brought pupils from the commune of Cernica to the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest.

Pupils from the commune of Cernica were guests of the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest. They visited the council room, the great hall and a courtroom, and professors from the faculty explained to them, in plain language, how the justice system works.
Eighth-grade pupils from Cernica and Tânganu came back to the faculty. For almost two hours they talked about the kinds of offences that can get minors into trouble with the law, and about how to avoid becoming victims themselves.
The second time we took part, our “Atelier cu meșteri destoinici” tent – a workshop of skilled craftsmen – brought together coppersmiths, spoon carvers and paintings inspired by Roma life, under the motto “talent, passion and lots of hard work”.
We came to the festival with a simple idea: to let Roma craftsmen speak through their work. Jewellers and coppersmiths worked live, as visitors looked on.
Our early years
Three moments from our history: a Christmas gesture, free legal assistance and one more voice on the streets.
On Christmas Eve, “Father Christmas’s messengers” brought gifts, clothes, food and school supplies to more than 50 children in Glina.
At the request of a nun in Florence, we provided free legal assistance to a family from Romania. Four children who had been at risk of being put up for adoption abroad came back home.
We joined the peaceful demonstration in memory of the victims of the Colectiv nightclub fire, alongside people calling for a fairer society.
