3 November 2015: Romanians took to the streets
After the tragedy at the Colectiv nightclub, people took to the streets peacefully, in memory of the victims. We were there too.

What happened
On the evening of Tuesday 3 November 2015, people took to the streets after the tragedy at the Colectiv nightclub. It was a peaceful demonstration, begun in memory of the victims, which grew naturally into a broad call against corruption and indifference.
People from all over the country showed that they wanted a fairer, more ethical public life.
We at the Phoenix Renaștem Vise Association took part too, full of admiration for everyone who chose to take a stand.
What came next
No one had foreseen how large the protest would be. The government resigned, and a technocratic government was installed in its place.
Things did not change overnight. But it was a signal that citizens no longer accept corruption so easily.

Why we were there
The first of our three verbs is “reviving”, as in reviving civic spirit.
We believe in active involvement in community life, for a fairer society. Standing peacefully alongside people who are asking for a more honest public life is part of that involvement.

Romanians across the country made it clear that they no longer have any tolerance for corruption, and that they want a fairer environment – as ethical as it can possibly be.
